Full Moon Fiasco 81

Ahh summer is finally here...

When: Thur, July 26th @ 8pm
Where: Eich's
Theme: Get Lei’d (Hawaiian Shirts)

And so, we will all again be embarking on the biggest bicycling event to every happen in Sandpoint. Summer FBC.

Here are some interesting tidbits from the Farmer's Almanac. First, this year, a total lunar eclipse will occur with the full Moon on July 27. However, this eclipse won’t be visible from the U.S. or Canada. For sky watch buffs, it may be interesting to know that this is the longest total lunar eclipse of the 21st century. From start to finish, the event will last four hours, with the totality lasting 1 hour and 43 minutes. Second, even bigger news is the long-awaited Mars opposition—also on Friday, July 27! The Red Planet is extremely close, bright, and red in the night sky, appearing right near the Full Moon!

But enough science, summer is in full swing here in Sandpoint. So, get out your beach wear, and don't forget your hawaiian shirt and leis, and let's ride!

We Need Music Again

Remember the trike-a-boom? Well, those were kinda cool days. We would have a rolling DJ along for our rides. But it died. And it was plagued with problems. And so, the brain trust here at FBC Sandpoint hatched an improved version over some beers.

Termed the Rolling Jukebox, this cool bike trailer will quickly and easily attach to any bike. It will have very wide, knobby tires making it usable year round...or at least almost year round. It will also house a marine grade (water proof) bumping stereo system, so we can have tunes on our ride. Stereo will be bluetooth. Trailer will have a speaker tower...kinda like you see on a boat. It will be awesome. However, all said and done it will cost close to $1,000.

So, we are holding a raffle, well not just one but 2 raffles, to raise the monies. First item is a limited edition Belvedere Vodka single speed bike from Pure Fix Cycles. The second item is for a Shotzski. No description needed there, I think you all know what to do with that. Raffle tickets are $2/ticket or 3 tickets for $5 for either item. Raffle will occur on August full moon ride.

Full Moon Fiasco 80 in Review

Our last ride was a special one. The theme was "Bark at the Moon." The ride fell on Yappy Hour, which is a fundraiser for the Panhandle Animal Shelter. Many riders prefunked at Yappy Hour down at Greasy Fingers Bikes over some beers, bbq and cute furry animals. When that ended, all riders gathered at Eich's. All spoke card monies went to the animal shelter, we donated $100.

Some 200+ riders pulled out of Eich's through the alley going the back way to the hospital cause of all the construction that was happening on Cedar. That was fun and confusing for some. We did a short tour through West Sand, where we encountered yet more road construction. More fun and confusion. We finally ended at our final destination.

Thanks to the crew at the Eagles. Damn, those gals were slinging drinks like no ones business. And they had smiles and were laughing and joking the whole time. They are really a fine destination for us, and we really appreciate them.

A last word, we unveiled a Shotz Ski and a cool single speed cruiser as 2 FBC Sandpoint raffle items to fund our new Rolling Jukebox. This cool bike trailer will quickly and easily attach to any bike. It will have very wide, knobby tires making it usable year round...or at least almost year round. It will also house a marine grade (water proof) bumping stereo system, so we can have tunes on our ride. Raffle tickets are $2/ticket or 3 tickets for $5 for either item. Raffle will occur on August full moon ride.
